D&AD Nominations and In-Book Announced

Message from D&AD President.

I challenge anyone not to be simply blown away by the incredible display of entries at Olympia, board upon board of talent standing to attention, ready for inspection by the creative industry’s finest.

It all began last September when over 15,000 people accessed the creative briefs from 1,000 colleges all around the world. In March 3,000 entries arrived at our doors.

Over the last two weeks (firstly at London’s Kensington Olympia) 170 leading creatives and sponsors of the briefs gathered together to judge. Walking up and down the aisles where the Student work was in with the Professionals’ it was difficult to tell the two apart. This is testament to the quality of the work submitted. Finally, today at a separate session some of the greatest names in product and furniture design helped judge the final category at the offices of LBi.

With all the results now in it’s safe to say that the creative standard is simply brilliant. And even if you aren’t one of the students whose work has been selected to appear in the Winners Site or been Nominated for a Student Yellow Pencil, you should be incredibly proud of your achievements. Answering a Student Awards Brief is a very big challenge and the judging (like all things D&AD) is of the highest standard possible. Here is a quick guide to what happens next:

* If your work has been selected at either In-Book or Nomination level then members of the Student Awards team will be in touch soon to tell you what happens next or to get more information.
* We will be unveiling the Nominations in a couple of weeks in the new Winners Site and this will allow you all to see and comment on the work that has been selected. More than this though, many of the judges will be getting involved directly to feedback on why they chose pieces. This is a very exciting development for the Student Awards and we think the debate and discussion will be particularly insightful.
* We are now able to tell you exactly how your work fared during the judging process. Please log into your profile to see your results. Tutors can also see how all the students at their college or school got on. We hope this helps you in a constructive way.

On behalf of everyone at D&AD and the sponsors of the briefs, I would like to thank you for getting involved with the 2009 D&AD Student Awards, whether you entered your work or downloaded one of the briefs to create a piece for your portfolio. We are delighted to see so many of you taking part.

Please remember that even in these difficult times, if you are talented and passionate, you will get recognised and will get the success you deserve.

Best wishes and good luck.
